Community College Aid

The Obama administration proposes to provide $12 billion in aid to community colleges. Most of the money would go toward programs enticing community colleges to do more to lift graduation rates and better prepare students for jobs. The hope is that over the next 12 years, the infusion of federal money will increase the number of community college graduates by a total of five million beyond the number who would graduate without it.

The proposal clearly recognizes the importance of two-year colleges to the economy. It also places an emphasis on the need for partnerships between community colleges and employers to offer work force training.

Up to now, federal aid to public education has focused on K-12. Let us know how you feel about this shifting emphasis to higher education.
