Forms of Writing
The more your students write, the more they will learn. Many students resist writing. Try to vary the types of writing you have your students do to break down their resistance.
Here are some types of writing you can have your students do.
Narrative Writing. Have your students write a story or a personal account of an experience they have had.
Expository Writing. Have your students use factual information to write about a topic.
Descriptive Writing. Have your students use descriptive writing with many adjectives to describe something.
Literature Writing. Have your students write their reaction to something they have read.
Poetry. Have your students write haiku, limericks, and even nonsense verse.
Summary Writing. Have your students write a summary of something that captures the main ideas, events, and concepts.
Letter Writing. Have your students write both friendly letters and formal letters. For older students, have them write business letters.
